1930s Liquid Satin Gown
Elegant 1930s wedding gown composed of a luxurious bias cut liquid satin. This bridal dress is authentic to the mid 30s, originally worn for a Connecticut wedding. The dress was made by Minnie Grady, the premier dressmaker at the time in New Haven, CT. It has a soft square neckline with a dramatic circular collar, top stitched in many parallel rows. The torso has an invert-V waist, matching chevron piecing at the long sleeves with their V-point wrists. The gorgeous skirt has two godet pleats front and back in a chevron style design, flaring into a train that trails about 3 feet behind the bride. The dress is a beautiful ivory color.
This dress is in good condition, especially for nearly being 100 years old. There are a few signs of wear to mention. There are very faint stains near the armpits. These can be hard to see due to the reflective nature of the liquid silk fabric. I have soaked the dress thoroughly and most of the stains came out, so it's hard to see them now. There has also been a very small repair to one of the seams. Please view all photos to see the condition.
This dress is very small and would best fit a modern XS. The wrist measurements are much smaller than the average size today, so the stitching might have to be taken out and re-sewn to add some space if they don't fit. Please keep in mind the difference between your hand and wrist circumference when comparing measurements, your hand tends to be larger than the wrist and must fit through the opening to wear the dress properly.
