1963 Heiress Gown
This dress belonged to Margie Peterson who married her husband Robert in 1963. You can still see the original photo of the lovely couple!
This incredible tailored silk satin and lace wedding gown was custom made for the heiress and is so luxurious. The original sleeves were deteriorated so I carefully removed them while salvaging the lace to create a matching pair of gloves. The dress has hand lace appliqué throughout the gown and a grand train with lovely bow detail.
The dress was custom designed for Margie, who was a popular 1950s model and actress. She went on to marry Robert Petersen, a successful publisher and entrepreneur. Together they became well know philanthropist who founded the Petersen Automobile Museum in Los Angeles. Throughout their lifetime, they donated over $100 million to various causes including the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, Orphanage Guild, and the LA County Museum of Art.
I'm so honored this dress made its way to my shop, and I have spent countless hours restoring it to continue its legacy with the next lovely couple!
There are a few signs of wear to mention, This dress is 62 years old and hold a lot of history! The dress has some minor spots throughout (mainly on the train hem), but there is so much fabric they are hardly noticed. I have not had the dress dry cleaned, so it is possible they could come out with professional cleaning. The lining has also torn in some places but this is not seen as it is on the underside of the dress and touches the ground anyways. Please refer to photos for more details.
